The whole idea of It’s made in Pennsylvania is to highlight products and manufacturers in the state of Pennsylvania and to educate everyone on just how many diversified products and services come out of PA.
To begin, let’s start with a little background, Pennsylvania has a long standing reputation for being a strong manufacturing state. From steel mills in Pittsburgh, tool shops in Meadville, and food manufacturing companies in the Lancaster and York area.
Just a few notable products that came from PA include: Carters Little Pills, Cannondale Bicycles, GE Locomotives, Sony plasma screen televisions, and even VW Rabbits back in the 1980s. Each area of Pennsylvania has established areas of specific industries and while the past few years have been exceptionally hard on manufacturing, there are still strong and even new up and coming manufacturers.
Our purpose is to help highlight manufacturing companies from the great state of Pennsylvania.
Solar Power Industries:
Formed in 2003, Solar Power Industries (SPI) has established itself as an emerging leader in the manufacturing of solar cells and related products, demonstrating significant growth in each year of its existence. With the strong need for Green Energy and Clean energy products, solar power is fast becoming a strong manufacturing market.
Solar Power Industries is unique to solar power because it not only manufactures the photo voltaic solar cells and modules but actually has the facilities to turn raw feedstock (silicon) into ingots, bricks and multi-crystalline silicon wafers. The facility uses Directional Solidification System or DSS furnaces to process the raw silicon. The resulting product is a large silicon ingot which is then sliced into smaller blocks called bricks and further sliced into silicon wafers. These products may be sold to other solar cell companies or go on to be made into solar cells and solar panels called solar modules
